Forging Collaborative Neuroscience Innovation with WorldClass Expert Participation

Taking place from January 29 to 31, 2026 at Shenzhen University of Technology, the 2nd GuangdongHong KongMacao Greater Bay Area (GBA) Neuroscience Conference was jointly hosted by the Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology (Chinese Academy of Sciences), Shenzhen University of Technology and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Designed as a highlevel international academic platform based in the Greater Bay Area, the conference aims to promote resource sharing and crossborder research cooperation within neuroscience.

The threeday event assembled more than 200 experts and scholars from 75 universities and research institutions spanning 18 countries and regions. Leading figures including multiple international academicians took part in the conference, forming a highcalibre faculty of speakers.

During the opening ceremony, Academician Fan Jianping, President of Shenzhen University of Technology, and Professor Wang Liping, Director of the Brain Cognition and Brain Disease Institute at the Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology, delivered opening addresses. Both highlighted the critical role of major scientific infrastructures and innovative research universities in consolidating the GBA’s brainscience research strengths and driving original research outputs.

The conference featured keynote sessions headlined by eight distinguished international academicians, alongside presentations by other prominent global neuroscience researchers. Conference Chair Academician Helmut Kettenmann noted that the highquality programme solidified the conference’s position as a sustainable international exchange platform for the field.

A major highlight was theInternational Young Scholars Exchange Week, which hosted 27 outstanding graduate students from Germany, Canada and other overseas regions. These young researchers participated in full conference proceedings, engaged in oneonone academic discussions with local students and researchers, and visited the GBA’s flagship largescale science facilities. Meanwhile, earlycareer scientists across the Greater Bay Area shared their latest work through dedicated oral reports and poster exhibitions. These activities facilitated crossborder and intergenerational academic dialogue and strengthened cohesion within the regional neuroscience community.

Following the successful conclusion of this second edition, the organising committee will continue to develop the conference into an influential global academic brand. Moving forward, it will advance crossborder collaborative mechanisms, support joint talent development and foster practical research partnerships, to help the Greater Bay Area grow into a worldclass innovation hub for brain science.
